Describe the exact moment you fell in love with travel.

I don’t know if I have an exact moment because I have been on an airplane since I can remember. I’ve always had a passport…so travel has always been a part of my life. If I have to pick a moment of when I fell in love with travel for “fun” it would have to be when I was 11-12 and went on an exchange student program to Japan. I got to live with a family for a week.

What was it about the experience that was so magical?

This was the first travel that at the time was completely on “my own”. It was part of a program, so there were chaperones, but I was living with a Japanese family all by myself. We did everyday things together like grocery shopping, going to school, and family dinner. By far my most favorite thing that we did was bike riding. To see the area of Japan we were in like that..it was just breathtaking to me at the time. The experience was my first with real independence.

Describe your journey from a frequent consumer of travel — to an organizer of once-in-a-lifetime trips?

I’ve always enjoyed being “in charge”, directing things, and making. My career path has always led me to organizing/coordinating events that include travel from a Corporate standpoint. I think it was/is just a natural progression of combining two things that I love to do: corporate event organizing/planning with leisure travel.

What was it about the UITAL team that made you want to join?

I wanted to join the UITAL team because of their genuine desire to not just organize a trip, but to create moments, to create an experience. There is a quote from Maya Angelou that I always remember when I am organizing an event “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” The UITAL team was all about making sure when you were on the trip that you feel like a VIP, that your needs were a priority, and that they were going to think of everything you would need before you even asked. I had to be a part of that! I wanted to be a part of taking that to the next level!
