Up In The Air Life is proud to take you on a journey to Lisbon, Portugal. Lisbon is the second oldest capital city in Europe and is mostly known for its complex history, production of port wine, steep hills, and narrow cobblestone streets. A paradise for foodie lovers! Lisbon is one of the most underrated cities in Europe. With narrow cobblestone streets, historic ruins, trams, and world-class restaurants, Lisbon is more than a multicultural city. It is the perfect combination of the old-world meeting the modern world with a reputation for style and history.

On this 7-day getaway, Lisbon will serve as our home base for the first half of our trip, before escaping to the golden sands of the Mediterranean coast of Algarve and unwind on the iconic beaches of Portugal

September 16 - 22, 2020

DAY 1

Welcome to the beautiful city of Lisbon, Portugal! The city that spreads along the banks of the River Tagus. Arrive at Lisbon Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS) and transfer to your hotel in the heart of the city. Take time to unpack and unwind. Enjoy a bit of leisure time exploring the beautifully vibrant cobblestone streets of the city center, maybe visiting the spa, or dive right in and enjoy lunch at the gourmet dining hall, Mercado da Ribeira (Ribeira Market).The choice is completely up to you! In the evening, we will gather for evening cocktails and a delicious traditional Portugese welcome dinner at one of Lisbon’s finest restaurants.

DAY 2

Rise and shine! After a delicious breakfast we’ll head to the public square in downtown Lisbon, steps away from Tagus River and embark on a walking tour exploring the African history and culture in Portugal. We’ll journey through six areas in Lisbon associated with different periods of African presence in the city, followed by a delightful lunch.

Enjoy the rest of your afternoon with a self-guided tour of the narrow cobblestone streets, pastel-toned homes, delectable cafes, and existique restaurants. At dusk, enjoy a night out on your own and enjoy an evening of gastronomic adventures. We’ll recommend all the best spots. End your evening with a nightcap and dance Kizomba at a local spot. It’s an Angola based danced brought to Lisbon from the African descendants – crazy sultry and easy for beginners to jump in!

DAY 3

After your first nightlife Portugal let’s hit the beach! Portugal is home to some incredible beaches. After noshing on breakfast today, we’ll explore the calm, teal waters of Ribeira do Cavalo Beach. This beautiful beach is tucked into a cove, making it the perfect place for sunbathing, swimming and snorkeling. The beach is unique in that to get there, we’ll take in a scenic hike through the national park.

DAY 4

Today we will head to one of the most atmospheric sights of Portugal and spend the day exploring the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the gorgeous city of Sintra. You will be transported back to the 8th century, when the Moors ruled Portugal. The Castelo dos Mouros (The Moors Castle) is significant to the African culture in Portugal. You’ll also discover tiny villages, and to visit the iconic butter-yellow Pena Palace. We’ll immerse ourselves in the local history and architecture courtesy of our friendly, expert guides.

DAY 5

Enjoy another fantastic breakfast at the hotel. Today is a free day to explore. If you haven’t explored Lisbon’s two oldest neighborhoods: Alfama and Graça, now’s your chance. These narrow, winding streets ooze with Lisbon charm home to charming restaurants, cafes, and boutique shops, as well as the city’s Botanic Gardens and Museum of Natural History and Science. Tonight we’ll meet up for a sunset catamaran sail.

DAY 6

After your scrumptious breakfast. Enjoy your last morning in Lisbon and take a leisure stroll to the downtown areas of Baixa and Rossio. Here you will find many city landmarks, great restaurants, and boutique shops.

We’ll meet up in the afternoon for an evening in the Portuguese kitchen for a hands-on cooking experience with Portuguese wines and delicious food. You’ll nibble on olives, chorizo, and fresh bread as you prepare a 3-course menu that uses seasonal ingredients to prepare a seafood dish, a meat dish and a dessert. After we’re done tearing up the kitchen, we’ll sit down to enjoy the perfectly magnificent meal we’ve prepared. Meals: Breakfast, Dinner
