Day 1
Welcome to Arequipa! (AQP)
Framed by three volcanoes, Arequipa is filled with baroque buildings constructed from sillar; a white volcanic stone. The day is yours to unwind and relax or to explore the city.
In the evening, we will connect to officially kick off our Peru experience at the Welcome Dinner.
Day 2
Rise and shine! Enjoy your free morning with a self-guided tour before we board the Belmond Andean Explorer in the evening.
This sleeper train is South America’s first luxury explorer featuring two dining cars, a lounge car, an observation car, and a spa car. Each cabin includes an en suite bathroom, wardrobe closet, air conditioning, and electrical outlets. Interior designs are inspired by the textures of Peru’s handwoven fabrics and the soft tones of alpaca wool. Anticipate a series of unique dining experiences, sampling the full spectrum of Peruvian flavors against a backdrop of spectacular mountain scenery. As we depart from the Arequipa Train station, it’s time to enjoy our first nightly feast on our way to Cusco!
Day 3
Awake early for a spellbinding experience as you witness the sunrise across Lake Titicaca, the highest lake in the world. Enjoy breakfast onboard to fuel you for a full day of adventure.
We begin the day with a ride in a traditional boat to visit Uros. Our exploration continues on to Taquile Island, known for its stunning agricultural terraces.
The last stop on our adventure for the day is a private lunch at Collata Beach with local entertainment.
We will return to the station in time for a delicious afternoon tea before boarding the train and continuing our journey to Cusco.
As evening descends, relax in the lounge or indulge in a spa treatment before we enjoy another tempting dinner.
Day 4
Another delicious breakfast with stunning views awaits you this morning. En route to our final destination, we’ll stop in Raqch’i to explore this fascinating archaeological site that was once an important Inca settlement.
Before you know it, we will arrive at the former capital of the Incan empire, Cusco.
After you check in at the hotel, the rest of the afternoon and evening is free for you to explore on your own or simply relax and get acclimated to the altitude. In the evening, your Up in the Air Life Tour Leaders will gladly provide you with some great dining and entertainment suggestions.
Day 5
The luxury continues today as we make our way to Machu Picchu in style! We suggest a light morning snack at the hotel before we board the Hiram Bingham train!
Heading towards Machu Picchu, your experience begins with a delicious welcome cocktail. Then savor a brunch and gourmet lunch as you admire the ever-changing scenery in the early light.
Make sure you are photo-ready as our private guide takes us to the top of one of the World Wonders. Before heading back to the train, there will be a short stop at the Sanctuary Lodge for afternoon tea and more picturesque views.
The return journey can feel like a different world. See the Sacred Valley from a new perspective as the day draws to a close, and anticipate a true fine dining experience and entertainment.
Day 6
El día es tuyo! The day is yours!
You have a full day in Cusco to Tour the Sacred Valley.
Shop in one of the many artisan markets, or relax and recover from your Machu Picchu experience.
In the evening, we’ll have a farewell dinner to end our bucket list adventure.
