The Tanzania Experience

Arusha + Tarangire National Park + Zanzibar

There aren’t very many places in the world where you can share a champagne picnic with your crew in the middle of a safari, sleep in luxurious tents secluded amongst giant trees, and have a massage with indigenous treatments after a relaxing day on the beach.

Join us on our 8-day luxury adventure in Tanzania and experience the country’s culture on a deeper level than the limited Discovery Channel narrative you’ve been told. You can’t call yourself an explorer until you have experienced the beauty and nature of Eastern Africa for yourself.

Do you hear that? That’s the sound of your senses singing after an incredible day in nature, watching huge herds of elephants, zebras, and wild cats during your game drive, and enjoying your sundowner before going back to your luxurious tent.

And you didn’t come snatched for nothing! The pics you will snap of your melanin poppin’ against the back drop of a safari, watching wild animals at the watering hole will be enough to shut down the gram, no cap.

Whether you are soaking it in on your lunch picnic, spotting the Big 5 on the game drive, or exploring picturesque cities along the Zanzibar peninsula, the breathtaking scenery and mix of cultures will have you feeling blessed to experience the beauty of Eastern Africa.

Priceless moments with new friends, historical exploration, exciting game drives, and pampered relaxation await you on your Up in the Air Life journey through Tanzania.

Explore the day-by-day itinerary.

Day 1

Welcome to Zanzibar!

Upon arrival at Zanzibar International Airport, you will be met by our team and transferred by private vehicle to your hotel located in Stone Town. Stone Town is a fine example of the Swahili coastal trading towns of East Africa

It retains its urban fabric and townscape virtually intact and contains many fine buildings that reflect its particular culture, which has brought together and homogenized disparate elements of the cultures of Africa, the Arab region, India, and Europe over more than a millennium. The remainder of your day is at leisure.

Tonight we will connect over cocktails and an amazing dinner.

Welcome home!

Day 2

Enjoy a laid-back lush breakfast at the hotel. After breakfast, we’ll enjoy a walking tour of Stone Town.

Stone Town is a very lively place where you’ll find a mixture of Arabic, African, Indian and European cultures living comfortably together.

As we walk through the labyrinth of streets too narrow for cars to pass, we’ll see mosques, churches, and temples side to side.

While we wander around the city, we’ll take a historical and cultural journey through the old slave market, Darajani marketplace, the House of Wonders, the Old Fort, and the Sultan’s Palace.

After lunch, we’ll enjoy delicious seafood at a local restaurant while we share photos and reflect on an eventful morning.

The evening is yours to explore on your own.

Day 3

Make the most of your final day in the breathtaking paradise of Zanzibar. You’ll have the opportunity to savor every moment of your time here and relax the way you prefer to.

Come join us later at “The Rock,” Zanzibar’s iconic restaurant right by the sea. We promise you an unforgettable farewell dinner.

Set against the backdrop of the Indian Ocean’s stunning sunset, “The Rock” is more than just a restaurant; it’s a magical experience. Perched on the water, it feels like you’re dining on the edge of the world.

Day 4

Today we’re heading to Tanzania to enjoy our luxury safari at Swala camp in the Tarangire.

After landing in the bush, we will take a game drive to the camp’s secluded location and enjoy a leisurely lunch on arrival.

Each of the twelve luxurious tents is shaded by tall acacia trees and ancient baobabs and is within sight of the well-frequented waterhole.

In the afternoon there is time to relax before enjoying an exciting game drive by an open four-wheel-drive vehicle.

Huge herds of elephants, greater kudu, Impala, and Zebra are all easily spotted whilst leopards lurk in the trees.

As the sun fades, enjoy a sundowner as you watch the game carry on with their daily activities. Return to camp to freshen up before dinner.

Day 5

Today, after noshing on breakfast in the bush watching the animals at the watering hole, we’ll engage in a full-day game drive into the heart of the Tarangire National Park.

We’ll enjoy most of the day out on the drive, so a picnic lunch will be calling our name.

This evening, return to camp and gather around the campfire while you watch the sunset over the plains before you.

Settle in at the dining tent for a deliciously prepared meal before retiring to your tent after an eventful day of game viewing.

Day 6

Today is our first early morning at the camp. Since animals are most active in the morning, it’s rise and shine and time to get ready to catch the action!

The safari experience is an exciting one but also very restful. In the afternoon, you are free to explore the camp, follow the animals around from the deck, lay back, read a book to learn about the ecosystem from the living room, or simply enjoy an extended outdoor shower in your tent.

If you rather explore than stay in, you’ll have the option to visit a local school where you may share stories with the children and learn more about Sanctuary Retreats’ social responsibility and how your safari stay contributes to these give-back initiatives. Donations are encouraged.

On our last night at the camp, we’ll listen to old-school music and dance the night away in the outdoor living room, see the stars as you can hardly see anywhere else near the city, and share stories around the campfire before leaving mainland.

Day 7

Today is a leisure day. Design your day to include an early morning drive or mid-afternoon massage.

Whatever you choose, we’ll take care of it. In the morning, you’ll have the option to visit a local school.

At the school, you may share stories with the children and learn more about Sanctuary Retreats’ social responsibility and how your safari stay contributes to these give-back initiatives.

On our last night at the camp, we’ll listen to old-school music and dance the night away in the outdoor living room.

Day 8

Enjoy your last morning at the camp. Today we’ll take our last game drive before being whisked off to the airport to head back home.
